Cannes Lions Festival Announces Winners in Entertainment and Craft Categories

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has unveiled the winners in the Entertainment and Craft Tracks during its second Awards Show of the week. Germany secured two Grand Prix awards, with “The Square Meter” and “The 100th Edition.” The Entertainment Lions for Gaming saw Xbox Games Pass winning the Grand Prix for “The Everyday Tactician,” while Iceland celebrated its first-ever Lion.

The festival awarded honors across various categories, including Entertainment Lions, Entertainment Lions for Gaming, Music, and Sport, as well as Design, Digital Craft, Film Craft, and Industry Craft Lions. In the Entertainment Lions category, “We Are Ayenda” for WhatsApp, by Creative X and Modern Arts, won the Grand Prix for its powerful documentary on the Afghan Girls National Football Team’s escape from Taliban-controlled Kabul using WhatsApp.

The Entertainment Lions for Gaming recognized “The Everyday Tactician” for Xbox Games Pass by McCann London with the Grand Prix. This campaign creatively linked the virtual and real worlds by offering a tactician job at a professional UK football club through the Football Manager 2024 game.

In the Entertainment Lions for Music, “Errata at 88” for Diageo by AlmapBBDO celebrated Alaíde Costa, a forgotten founding mother of Bossa Nova, and won the Grand Prix for its impactful musical campaign.

The Entertainment Lions for Sport awarded “WoMen’s Football” for Orange by Marcel, Paris, with the Grand Prix. This campaign used deep fake technology to highlight the skills of the French women’s national football team.

Design Lions honored “Sightwalks” for Sol Cement by Circus Grey, Lima, with the Grand Prix for its innovative tactile paving system for the visually impaired. The Film Craft Lions awarded “The Square Meter” for Hornbach D.I.Y. by HeimatTBWA, Berlin, the Grand Prix for its intimate portrayal of housing challenges.

Digital Craft Lions recognized “Spreadbeats” for Spotify by FCB New York with the Grand Prix for its creative music video made entirely within Microsoft Excel. The Industry Craft Lions awarded “The 100th Edition” for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung by Scholz & Friends, Berlin, the Grand Prix for its poignant campaign featuring Holocaust survivor Margot Friedländer.
